"A musical experience that celebrates diversity, creativity and community"
In younger days, we all actively sought to be seen at the coolest restaurants, the most buzzed about concerts, the most "can't miss" cultural happenings...but let's face it, in many ways it's a relief to not have to be forever catching that train anymore. As parents, we just want to go where we know that our kids are going to have fun, whilst also allowing for the possibility that we might also enjoy ourselves as they're going about it.
Wouldn't you know? The Getty 'Garden Concerts For Kids' seem to have been invented for precisely that purpose. Taking place, naturally, in the Central Garden of Los Angeles' most fun-loving, social-sceney art museum, the series forgoes the usual cutesy kiddie entertainment for music with genuine cross-generational, multicultural appeal.
"It offers something for everyone," enthuses Program Coordinator Daniela Alvarez. "Families can get up close to the music to sing, dance, and run around with energy; or they can spread out a blanket, enjoy a picnic, and relax together while listening. It's just a wonderful opportunity for families to spend the day together and enjoy live music from fantastic musicians in one of the most beautiful places in Los Angeles."
To wit, on August 1st and 2nd, Dan & Claudia Zanes, he the former frontman of 80's alt-rock heroes The Del Fuegos, and she his urbane jazz-vocalist wife (check out the video for their irresistible pooch-tribute track 'Little Pal of Mine'), will team up with nouveau R&B singer and former Howard Gospel Choir member Tyree Austin, for a weekend of soulful, uplifting sounds and vibes. While on the 15th and 16th it will be beloved children's folk music songstress - and former Lisa Loeb musical accomplice - Elizabeth Mitchell.

In between, Peruvian-born, GRAMMY® and Latin GRAMMY® nominee Flor Bromley will grace the Getty outdoor stage on the 8th and 9th, performing cross-culturally inspired tracks like her women-celebrating single 'Trailblazing'. Her 2025 release 'Herstory' was nominated for 'Best Children Music Album', and seeks to inspire kids - and everyone - by relating the stories of proudly empowered women from across the continents, via exuberant global sounds and multicultural beats and rhythms.
"Kids and families are an important part of the diverse audiences we strive to welcome and engage through our programming," Alvarez explains. "We want the museum to be a place where people of all ages feel welcome, curious, and inspired. The Getty 'Garden Concerts for Kids' create opportunities for families to experience art, music, and nature in accessible, joyful ways. We hope it spark a lifelong connection with the museum."
With the show dates just around the corner, tigernoodles engaged Ms. Bromley to tell us more about her music, and why she's so looking forward to her upcoming performances at the Getty.

How would you describe your music?
My music is a celebration of culture and imagination. I create fun, educational, and interactive songs for children and families that blend global rhythms and sounds with messages of kindness, curiosity, and empowerment. I like to draw from my own cultural Latin American roots to create music that invites families from all backgrounds to sing, dance, and discover the world together.
What do you find most fulfilling about making music for and performing for kids and families?
The most fulfilling part is witnessing the moment when children feel seen, inspired, and connected through music. I love creating spaces where kids can celebrate who they are, learn about different cultures, and experience the joy of participation. Performing for families reminds me that music is a universal language, a way to build bridges, spark imagination, and create memories together.
What do you hope kids will take away from your multicultural sounds and message?
I hope children leave with a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around them. I strongly believe that learning about different cultures makes you more empathetic to them as you grow up. Through my music, I want them to understand that every culture has beautiful stories to share, and that our differences make our communities stronger. I hope they feel empowered to embrace their own identities while developing empathy and appreciation for others.
What attracted you to perform at the 'Garden Concerts for Kids'?
They bring together two things I deeply believe in: the power of art and the importance of creating experiences for families. The Getty’s commitment to connecting audiences with culture makes [the 'Garden Concerts'] a perfect setting for a musical experience that celebrates diversity, creativity, and community. I’m excited to bring families together through music in a space where art, nature, and storytelling can all come alive.
Parents: For an even more complete cultural fix, stop in at the Getty on August 9th for their 'Fantastic Creatures: Family Workshop' between 11am and 3pm to, as the title suggests, create your own unique 'creature', inspired by the work of French Symbolist painter Odilon Redon.
